How Sweet It Is by Dylan Newton
5.0
How Sweet It Is by Dylan Newton is a hilarious and charming story! It has one of the best meet-cutes I've ever read, although meet-disaster is probably a more accurate description. If you love heartwarming laugh-out-loud romcoms, you should definitely give this one a read!
It's about event planner Kate Sweet, also known as the Queen of Happily Ever Afters, and horror writer Drake Matthews, the Knight of Nightmares. Kate is helping a friend by planning the book launch for Drake's latest novel. But their worlds are turned upside down right from their first meeting.
The writing is fantastic with perfect humor, witty banter, and romance! Kate, Drake, and all of the secondary characters are so lovable, and they each have their own vulnerabilities. I especially enjoyed the camaraderie between Drake and his brothers and hope that they get their own books soon!
Bonus: There is an adorably mischievous menace of a dog, who may or may not be responsible for their meet-disaster!
CWs: discussion of domestic abuse and suicide

All Fired Up by Dylan Newton
5.0
This book got me All Fired Up in the best ways possible!
All Fired Up is the sequel to How Sweet It Is. It’s the story of Imani and Zander, the youngest Matthews brother. The sparks have been flying between these two since they met in the last book, and it’s such a fun and entertaining journey to see them float back toward each other and fall in love.
Imani has a lot of personal issues and grief to work through. But I loved how she grows throughout the story and is able to accept when she needs help. And it was great seeing Zander mature, while still retaining his lovable and easygoing personality. Also, we get an adorable glimpse into Kate and Drake’s post happily-ever-after life!
I loved learning about hot air balloons, ceramics, and Hungarian gulyas. And I’m definitely adding Lancelot to my list of favorite animal characters!
Get ready to soar away in this charming and slightly spicy romance when it releases on May 17, 2022! Up, up, and away!
Thank you so much to the author, publisher, and Net Galley for the opportunity to read an advance copy.
I’m really looking forward to Ryker’s story next and am excited to find out who he will be paired up with.
CWs: FMC’s grief over her mother’s death, PTSD, on-page panic attack, discussions of bipolar disorder, war, and suicide

About a Rogue by Caroline Linden
5.0
About a Rogue by Caroline Linden is the first book in her Desperately Seeking Duke series. It’s also the first book I’ve read by her, but it definitely won’t be the last.
This series is about finding the heir to the Carlyle dukedom. Two of the most likely candidates are introduced in this book. The current duke’s mother tells them she will provide them each with an annual income if they can prove that they are worthy of the title and maintain their respectability.
Maximillian St. James, a notorious rogue and gamester, is charming and clever, but no one has ever given him a chance, so he immediately seizes this opportunity to prove that he is capable. Max proposes a business partnership with Samuel Tate, who owns successful pottery business, and offers to marry Tate’s older daughter.
Strongly opposing her father’s decision, Bianca Tate helps her sister elope and ends up having to take her place at the altar with Max. She is passionate about producing high quality and unique pottery wares with her carefully formulated glazes and is extremely protective of her family’s thriving business. She thinks Max is a foolish fortune hunter and really hates him. The sparks and chemistry between these two are apparent right from the start.
This story begins as enemies-to-lovers, but that quickly becomes one-sided as Max is just a cinnamon roll behind his roguish façade, and he is completely smitten with Bianca. Bianca, on the other hand, isn’t as certain about Max and his intentions and takes some time to warm up to him.
Max and Bianca’s slow-burn romance is completely swoonworthy. I love that Max never pressures Bianca. However, he’s not opposed to being as charming and enticing as possible and using every opportunity to flirt with his wife. He admires and respects her and makes every effort to get to know her, making it clear that he wants their marriage to be more than just a business deal. It’s so satisfying to see Bianca slowly realize how wrong she has been about Max and how good they are together. While Bianca is a creative genius, Max shows an affinity for business.
This book, with its entertaining romance and unique plot, was just what I needed to help me get out of a reading slump!
