The book has a slow start but the characterization of each - well - character is important to the overall story. I 100% recommend listening to the audiobook. The choice to have a full cast was spot on and took my listening experience from good to great.

A lyrically written book with loveable characters - it could have been about half as long and I would have enjoyed it even more.

A delightfully upsetting book of exactly the right length.
A Certain Hunger by Chelsea G. Summers

The author is written to be insufferable, but the book is focusing on the utterly boring ways she was insufferable in Italy 25 years ago instead of at least telling me how she is insufferable in jail or how she insufferably ate people. Even the gorgeous food descriptions have gone - they only come about in "present day" or recent past descriptions.

I can't believe I'm typing this but - the book needed to be longer. This book is a series of events that I really would have cared about if I'd been given time and reason to actually care about the characters. Instead, we have a series of confusing, unrealistic events. I beleive author was going for an "It" -like- feeling of it young teens from the 70s/80s saving the neighborhood against all odds (and adults) but it came off as the creative writing assignment of the main character, Curtis. Not a boring read, but not nearly as good as it could have been.
