Started reading this after watching a video on Kowloon city! I find it very fascinating and I'm not romanticizing it but it's just so interesting that this happened and now there's a manga based on it which is also interesting!! I'm excited to see where the story goes :')

It's kind of clear that Zoe didn't know what she was doing and that's okay actually because this comic did something that knows and is good at. Which is transforming ink into emotions that can be comprehended and felt by others (took this right out of her book) i did eat it up because it was validating to see my train of thought on a comic. I love her art style and the comic had a sense of mixed media aesthetic which was super entertaining.. the not so subtle fourth wall breaks and her different personas discussing her choices made me chuckle. What I like about this is she acknowledges that she doesn't do the right thing sometimes and I respect that self awareness and it also kind of sucks that we are not doing better despite being self aware it hits close to home. I know that I'm gonna keep returning to it again from time to time :')
I Came Upon a Lighthouse: A Short Memoir Of Life With Ratan Tata by Shantanu Naidu

I've followed Shantanu since 2019 and he always came across as a warm and kind person, that's reflected in his book throughout! Unlike others who might read this book for Ratan Tata I got it to know Shantanu's story instead.  His writing style is simple and pulls you in, he definitely loves telling his stories and his descriptive writing on places, people, nature was delightful to read.

There were instances where I felt that his praise and worship for Tata was repeatitive and constant could be toned down a bit, nevertheless this book is a reflection of his heart and his vulnerability seeps through in all the pages and I respect that.

The illustrations by Sanjana are the defination of heartwarming! So soft and the palate of colours radiate the warmth complimenting the text! A wonderful addition to the book :')

I bought this book without even knowing the premise but when one of my friends told me that it was about going back in time and getting back before the coffee gets cold I was intrigued and picked it up from my shelf immediately. In the four stories my favorite was the 'mother and child' because of how emotional and hopeful it got me, but I just think the characters could have been more fleshed out?
I did like the ending where they talked about the change in the actions of the people who have gone back in time. I wanted to know more about kazu I hardly know her.
Got me feeling a bit unsatisfied in certain areas but overall an okay read. It maybe because it was translated from Japanese but I didn't connect with the writing so that's something.

I didn't have a slightest idea about Okinawa and their history. This graphic novel covered some important aspects that people of Okinawa has faced throughout the battle and the after effects of the colonization that took place. The art style was simple yet effective I enjoyed it! My favorite stories were About my Mother, School, Dirt Theives, Tolerated cultivation, Island duty and Military Employee. A lot of the world's problems are connected from Okinawa, Ukraine, Taiwan, Gaza and other countries that are going through colonization, this is addressed in the interview with Susumu Higa. Okinawa shows strong cultural themes where they consider nature sacred and pray in those places. Its great to see how they consider nature as their god as we sustain due to it! The conflicting themes of standing with their people or earning a good living by working in a military base that's operated under the US and protesting against the said bases all of these thoughts and discussions is something people with privilege are not familiar with and this is something they have been living with. The stories where young people are forced to face the political situations and take a stand stood out to me. I will think about Okinawa and look into more works of Susumu Higa.
