The Wood at Midwinter by Susanna Clarke

A beautiful, chilly short story to read on a snowy day. Reads like a good myth or legend, a story that should be read aloud by a fire.

Pasha Malla is EVERYTHING. I love him, I loved Kill the Mall, and I was so delighted to be reunited with the narrator and K. Sohail, this time on an island at a couples retreat with a robot (regards, Jerome) and a bunch of folks who might be a cult. It’s GREAT.

A medium has to convince a goat farmer that his farm is ACTUALLY haunted. They fall in love or whatever.
Nothing Like The Movies by Lynn Painter

Second chance at love, exes reuniting after a messy breakup two years prior. He’s a college baseball player and she runs the baseball team’s socials. Things are rocky at first, but some actual communication finally happens and they pull their heads out of their asses long enough to admit that maybe this could work. 1/5 on the Steam scale, just kisses.
Bull Moon Rising by Ruby Dixon

Fantasy romance novel, a bull-man (like a Minotaur) and a human woman in a marriage of convenience plus a whole lot of sex. Level 5/5 on the Steam Scale.

Really great horror mystery. Deals with DiD, Memory Loss, Trauma, and missing/kidnapped children.

Someone remind me to read this again when I’m not actively working on a liminal horror novel! I liked it a lot, but also almost avoided each page because I didn’t want to bee too influenced. If you liked “I’m Thinking of Ending Things” or “We Spread” you might like this.
