Read if you like:

• Dystopian novels with sci-fi elements
• Stories centered on political turmoil and classism
• Fully-developed plots
• Strong female MCs
• Books with lots of characters
• World building

I loved this author’s debut novel, Black Buck, so I was super interested to read this one. Although I didn’t love it as much as his first (which lives rent free in my mind), I thought it was a very interesting story! I enjoyed how detailed it was and even though it is a dystopian novel, it still had a lot of social commentary and parallels to political and social issues of today and the past.

• “Workplace” romance
• Books about books/movies
• The essence of a true rom-com

• Minimal spice

This book is super cute and the perfect palate cleanser! I loved the plot of two writers working together to create the perfect rom-com. It had the makings of a quintessential Katherine Center with banter and a HEA!

Read if you like:

• Coming-of-age novels
• Books centered on music
• 90s nostalgia
• Girlie popstars and boy bands
• Quick reads
• Books that include lyrics, articles and other fun features

I liked this one a lot! It was a great trip down memory lane of being a teenie bopper who was obsessed with popstars. It isn’t super heavy but does touch on some important topics about being a young artist in the 90s/early 2000s.

This one was just okay for me. It had a good premise but felt a bit boring and the ending left me less than impressed.

Read if you like:

• Character-driven novels
• Reality tv
• Rich people problems
• Extremely vain characters
• Books set during the pandemic

I had super high hopes for this book and unfortunately it was a perfect storm of not so great things. The concept was something that really intrigued me (Iranian-American family does a reality tv show) but the execution was completely different. I found the characters to be extremely vain and the plot was lacking. Although I understood the author’s intentions, I didn’t appreciate the purposeful downplaying of Iranian culture and what it means to be an Iranian in America. The narration of the audiobook was difficult to enjoy as well. 😬

Read if you like:

• Mysteries with Get Out and Nine Perfect Strangers vibes
• Books centered on a Utopian community
• Morally grey characters
• Quick reads
• Books that make you think “WTF?!”

This was another highly anticipated read for me as I have loved all of Yoon’s YA novels. Don’t get it twisted though, this is nothing like her other books. I really enjoyed the concept of this book and thought it was mostly well executed. I just struggled a bit with the subject matter and felt that some parts of the book were a bit out of touch. Overall, it was an interesting read and I’d definitely still read anything she writes.
