This book was 5 stars but the last 20% lost it two stars imo.
First of all, it's an interesting ass premise
Second of all, ask yourself what gender is K and are you absolutely sure you're correct
And personally
i wasnt really a fan of multiverse ending stakes that ended up not being real? I still dont get how k won the game. Everything in the clues kept pointing to moonrise and the gatewick building but she won because she repeated what her and annie did as kids? And there was some cosmic stuff that i didnt really understand. But it doesnt make sense??? Also you find out that your wife has been looking for you for years and you run off with your girlfriend? Idk man i didnt get the ending at all but the first half of it was great

4.5

Characters: 4/5 i totally called that twist
with the plant people. It was interesting character work to write people that arent human but think they are and then hinting at differences in demenors. Plus turtons characters are always really well fleshed out and diverse in motivation and thinking

Plot: 4/5 i didn't want to put it down but it looses a point i think because
they were never in real danger? The humans were so there was some stakes i guess

World building: 3/5
Writing style: 5/5 good fit for me I didn't feel like I needed to adjust

  • Loveable characters? No

5.0

Characters : 5/ 5 i mean at first you really don't root for the characters because they aren't your traditional main characters and i think it's always really hard to write characters that aren't loveable but some where along the way they grow on you? They became my monstrous girls
The way the characters are written too? at first I didn't love it but after a while I realized it was because it was so eerie??? The way that Evie was just so.... predatory? She was calm and calculating and unfazed instead of the normal anxious mess most teenagers are that I was extremely unsettled
Plot: 5/5 woah bro that plot twist
that stowe was a rook???
it had me squaking like a chicken in the middle of the night because
you thought he was one character you root (pun intended) for

World building : 5/5 the eerie unsettling atmosphere was great
Writing style :  4/5 it was an adjustment but It really worked for the story
