Horrible reverse character development. Plot filled with loopholes. Great recipes. Joann should consider YA rom coms.
Initially Hannah was quirky, thoughtful and funny, but as the plot unfolds - her character changes for the worst. She’s extremely judgmental, misogynistic, narcissistic and manipulative.
There was no reason for us to be introduced to so many characters and so many suspects that would be eliminated 2 lines later, it was unnecessary and confusing. There were too many mini 2 seconds climaxes - the plot dragged on longer than it should. A good 150 pages would have been alright.
She hates her mother, claims that her sister uses her, but she ends up being so mean to her and lies and manipulates almost everyone in town just for her nosy self to solve murder.
She’s so detach that supporting characters are processing the trauma of death much realistically than her, she’s so absorbed with solving the murder and apparently getting Bill the promotion that she just glides over so many sensitive scenes without compassion.
The novel feels rushed in how it doesn’t dwell on any topic for more than 5 lines and the transition of scenes can throw you off. One minute we are baking, next thing we are with an orange cat - the transitioning of setting and scenes are rough and whiplash - y.
I don’t get why Bill was not with her in most of the “detective” work and why was she so bothered - she’s not a police officer. The rules that she broke are way too many for this book to even resemble some sense of realistic ness, it’s unrealistic how she’s been in so many dangerous situations like the casino, but found information so easily without being threatened - like how did she ask questions then win a jackpot and no found it dodgy ? - she doesn’t even use a fake name, but apparently she is scared that the killer might find her.
How she judges people on their weight, but runs a bakery is insanely funny.
How they tackle abuse and addiction, yet she doesn’t have the time of day to be a good person and listen - she just wants to solve her case. She brushes over so many sensitive situations in a detached and narcissistic perspective.
I truly started liking it, but as I read more - I hated her in the end.
