A real page turner! Patsy is a Jamaican living in the inner city with dreams of having and being more which she thinks can be achieved by going to America, the land of opportunity.
Patsy leaves Jamaica and her daughter behind in search of “more” and to reunite with her childhood best friend, Cicely. She soon realises that America isnt how or what she thought it would be.
The novel carries us through Patsys difficult life and her transitioning to life in the USA. It tackles serious issues such as classism, sexuality and mental health issues.
Patsy was relatable. Her story represents that of many Caribbean women. It was gripping a story and a true insight into the life of many illegal aliens.
The start was slow and i found the beginning to be overly descriptive. This is the only reason i didnt give it 5 stars.
