Jag får minsann bita tillbaka tårar varenda gång jag läser en Gardell-bok. Intet nytt på västfronten!

It's so edgy it should feel silly, but it very rarely does. The writing and characters had me hooked from early on, and the non-chronological structure added a lot of suspense.
Unfortunately the final plot twist fell completely flat, hence the 0.5 star taken off.

So, I finally gave in... and of course, it was right down my alley. That all-too-relatable feeling of "I'm depressed and if only I had the privilege to be able to sleep for a year, maybe I'd be fixed" permeates through the novel... with the looming threat of 9/11 in the background. The latter was not something I expected, but I liked the effect it had on the story. The writing is hazy but also quite funny at times - I particularly liked the interactions with the "psychiatrist" who was just... wack.

I'm still trying to pinpoint why this book and it's story beats just didn't land with me, so please bear with. There's something about the narrative style that made me feel removed from both the world building, plot and characters. It tells rather than shows quite a lot, which I think contributed to the characters feeling stale (personality traits? Don't know 'em), the world empty and illogical and like things were happening because The Plot Said So. I just... really didn't like it. Disappointing.

The sarcastic humour, bi and trans erasure, lack of sources and general sense of trying too hard just didn't land with me, soz

Översättningen är ju sådär och lite lagom förlegad, men den håller ändå!
