The Mysteries of Pendowar Hall by Syrie James

This is a great beginning to the The Audacious Sisterhood of Smoke and Fire. Diana is a governess who has been charged by her Godmother to find the truth of her relative's suspicious death. William is a sea captain who's been injured and recovering while being the new heir to Pendowar Hall.

Diana takes the job as governess to 15 yr old Emma. Emma has a challenging reading disability, but Diana finds a way to relate to her thinking process and therefore starts to actually help her.

Sparks fly between Diana and William. I wish it would have been a little bit heavier on the romance part. Overall, a good book with very relatable characters.

Man, I love Mary Balogh. This story was a bit too religious for my tastes, but trust Ms. Balogh to make me a believer. Rachel is a rich heiress having her come out and David is a poor vicar. She falls head over heels in love with him, but he thinks she will be unhappy once she realizes what it's like to be a vicar's wife.

What a rollercoaster of a ride we go on with them from unbridled passion, to hurt feelings, guilt, embarrassment, pride, tenderness, quiet moments and service to others. All while the two characters grow in their faith in a higher power.

I want to believe! This is why I read romance!

Malcolm and Adeline were a great couple. He was a romantic at heart and encouraged her to trust more. She had a brilliant generous mind and deserved to have someone adore her like Malcolm did. The romance was open door and very sweet. I love seeing two really NICE people get heas.

Elspeth and Aegir were such a cute couple. It was very easy to see how smitten he was with her because she deserves only good things. I also learned a lot of monster lore in this book too, so educational to boot.
