Although i tend to like fast-paced books, this title surprised me. It was slow with a modest amount of action, and yet it kept me interested up until the last pages. I loved the family dynamics. The relationships felt real, both the romantic ones and not.

Although I definitely don't qualify this as a cosy mystery/fantasy, it does lean that way.

Such a perfect book if you are looking for something lighthearted with no toxicity.  In fact, there is nothing that could easily trigger most people. Like with most of these short books the author writes, there really is no action and the plot centers on the two MCs and their relationship . Nevertheless it keept me wanting to keep reading which  I treat as the best way to decide the star rating.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great book. The issues I have with it are totally my own.
For me there is just to much war and politics. I really only have one MC and one secondary character I like. Everyone else I am either neutral towards or dislike. That in itself nearly put me of reading to the end.

But, as usual with Sanderson books, I find the world he built fascinating. I love the way we are gradually introduced to it and the magic system.  It does not feel so overwhelming as with some authors who try to infodump everything early on.

I will continue with the series.

I loved this book so much !

After the "The way of King's" I wandered if the series was for me. There was so much war and politics I was concerned since its really not what I gravitate towards.

This time however I got a perfect balance of plot/action and character deep dive and development to keep me glued to the book up until the very end.

Even after so much time, this book is still current in how it describe  human nature.  How one person can corrupt someon ,  and how beauty is seen and interpreted by others. A very sad but real truth of life.
