I have just finished reading  Modern Divination.
I loved the premises of this book; however, the execution let me down as it is prolonged-paced
It's a very character-driven book with significant character development, and I loved that we have a diverse case. While reading this book, we can see one of the substantial points of focus is the character flaws in part of the book. It felt so long, and I struggled to read. I felt there could have been more of a plot. I still don't understand that magic system in this world. It is left unexplained for the most part. I am curious to see where the story will go. It feels more like a cosy fantasy with a hint of romance with the tropes of forced proximity whilst following Auerila, whos curated a perfect human life alongside her serious magical life.

nother Net galley Backlog is The Anti-Wedding Party by Lucy Know. This book has an adorable cover, which attracted me to it. This was a rapid and easy read, but the book felt flat for me, and I couldn’t connect to any of the characters and didn’t care about them. It has a very descriptive style, and the plot is practically non-existent. Though it was a quick and easy read, I found finishing challenging.

The Secret Keepers Bt Sara

I have loved reading this book and the dual pov of Elias and Ararma. It was a quick read with a very intriguing storyline, and you keep thinking about who has done it and why I found this started for me around the 40 % mark; I felt like a very slow burn, but you could feel the tension slowly picking up between Elias and Arama. One of my favourite characters has to be Claude. He made me laugh at times with how eccentric he is, but I also love how much of a good friend he is. I loved travelling around the Dravemoor estate with the whole gang. They each had so many quirks.

Thank you to Datura and Angry Robot for including me on this tour and providing me with a copy of this book.

This book showcases a wonderfully accessible writing style that warmly embraces diverse cultural backgrounds, particularly through the journey of Lily. After her sister’s traumatic experience, Lily courageously supports those in need. From the very beginning, we see Lily's incredible strength as she skillfully disarms a Russian mob enforcer.

As the story unfolds, the characters face difficult decisions that test their integrity, confronting complex sociopathic antagonists. It is a vibrant exploration of resilience, compassion, and the importance of standing up for what is right!

One Has to Die

One Has to Die is the third book in the Branches of Past and Future Magic series by MN Bennet.

In this book, we are following Dorian after the end of the events last year. Considering the title and warning, I was on edge at the start of the book, but the build-up is spot on, and I cannot fault it. I have loved returning to this series and following the cast of colourful characters. The character's death had me in a chokehold, and I cried. Having had a significant impact on all the others even if some hide it, and I have also enjoyed seeing how other characters have reacted to this. Additionally, I love the banter Dorian has with his students and Milo. The end of this book has a sort of twist, and not all as it seems. I cannot wait to dive into the next part of this series.

**Netgalley Backlog Day**

Today, I’m excited to share my thoughts on *The Someday Daughter* by Elle O'Clover.

Welcome back to another Friday Netgalley Backlog! In this week’s review, I found *The Someday Daughter* to be a quick and engaging read. The story beautifully captures the nuances of relationships through the lens of a mother-daughter dynamic, exploring themes of motherhood, young adulthood, and personal growth.

We follow Audrey, who is reluctantly forced to spend her summer before starting pre-med on a book tour with her controlling mother. The first half of the book sets the stage, but I found the second half to be more captivating and transformative. I especially appreciated the representation of mental health and how it underlines the complexities of the mother-daughter relationship.

Overall, it’s a poignant tale that resonates with anyone who has navigated the challenges of familial expectations and personal identity.

The Hemlock Queen by Hannah Whitten

Thank Netgalley and Little Brown Books for providing me with an advance copy.

This book, a much quicker and easier read than the first one in the series, resonates with Lore's relatable coping mechanisms. We see her dealing with her pain through alcohol, a method many of us can understand, as she struggles to move on from the events of the previous book. Her feelings of anguish, pain, and anxiety were portrayed so beautifully that I could really connect with what she was experiencing.

The love triangle, a significant and compelling theme, continues to unfold in this story. Gabe's reluctance to acknowledge his feelings allows Bastian to step in, creating a complex

I have just finished reading "Mortgage of Convenience" on Kindle Unlimited. The story is told through a dual POV featuring Bee and Sebastian. However, I felt that the characters needed more development, as I couldn't learn much about them. Their transition from living together to becoming intimate was quite rapid; this book definitely falls into the insta-love and insta-attraction category.

I did appreciate the LGBTQI+ representation, which was a positive aspect. However, I found the book to be a bit lengthy for a romance, and I struggled to stay engaged towards the end.
