Really slow for literally the first half of the book before it got better. It's dece t enough but I didn't like how the chapters flowed.
The Memory Thief by Lauren Mansy

Can't tell if the prose was bad or the narrator. The beginning told way too many stories of people who aren't actively part of the present tense so it's difficult to keep them straight. The ending was very anti climactic. Imagine the most exciting scene starts to happen and then the narrator blacks out and you're super bummed you missed all the action and now you have to listen to other people retell the story.

Dragged a bit too long. The book could've been condensed and the same message would've been received.

Hot tip if you're reading on Kindle: there is a glossary in the back. Wish I had known about it as I was reading.

This was recommended as a standalone book in the Cosmere universe. There's a lot of humor in the story. But the narrator is pretty rambly and tends to go off on tangents which makes it hard to remember where in the plot you're currently at.

Interesting plot, good lesson(s), and I liked all the characters well enough. But there was something about this book that didn't hold my attention enough. I almost DNF'd it.

Short and easy to read prose. But lacked actual substance. A total forgettable book.

Good storyline, but the storytelling was long winded and went into into anecdotal tangents about the past which made it difficult to follow along. This was very annoying/bearable to read. Not sure if it'll be worth it to read the sequel, especially since the book ended well enough that there's really no motivation to continue.

I love books in this type of speculative fiction. Especially when it takes something silly like the length of a string to showcase the societal prejudice that is all too real in real life. It's a very thought provoking story and I hope people learn to apply its lessons in real life.
