I was excited to read this book - the concept of Consilience and Positron was so compelling to me. But the plot itself falls so flat, and the ending leaves so much to be desired. I hate open endings, I prefer things to be settled. The writing feels fast, almost like a stream of consciousness for Stan or Charmaine at times, and yet the book remained mostly boring and uninteresting to me until the third act. I wanted so much more from this one!

It’s been some years since I finished reading The Wildwood Chronicles - I had forgotten just how much I enjoy Meloy’s writing style. It’s delightfully descriptive, and has a special way of really making me, as a reader, feel like I’m there. This book is no different. It’s full of lovable, interesting characters, and I will admit I was caught off guard by each turn of the plot - though I recognize that for many readers, these plot points may come off as “predictable.” Overall, an excellent read and wonderful way to kick off the year after letting it sit on my bookshelf for longer than I’d like to admit.
