I quit reading at about 35% in. I know the book was written in the 50s where certain terms were more wildly used (not accepted or ok. But used.)
But after the about the 3rd use of more than one disgusting racial slur I'd had enough. I tried to keep going because the book is so widely praised as a classic... but honestly it made my stomach turn. Not for me.

Less of a hardy cackle and a fuck you to men and more of a gentle "Girl you deserve it all, don't you dare settle." to all the women of the world. Well spoken and thoughtful.

The writing is pretty good. But, that's about where my positivity ends. I really struggled to finish this book. I heard such good things about this one and I could not figure out why I hated it so much. It's not because the story is weird, or the main character is a terrible whiny person who I was annoyed by the whole time..
But I feel like I finished it and was left with a WTF did I just read taste in my mouth. I got absolutely nothing out of this book at all and I wish I hadn't wasted my time.

I did not understand the hype of this book. It was all I could do to finish it. I did, but my goodness I did not enjoy it.
