Wild Love by Elsie Silver

a fun read if a bit boring and long for what little happens in the story. There are a lot of filler moments that affect the pacing and drag the momentum.
The MMC is my kind of man: strong, silent type with intelligence and integrity in spades. Thought the FMC was a bit inconsistent at times; swinging between adult and petulance. The absolute best part is the character of Cora, his 12 yr old daughter. Her character is funny and disarming and often is the reason we get to peek into the main characters psyche. She absolutely carries the book.

Never have I anticipated a companion series as much as this duet and been so completely disappointed in the result.
I was already on the fence with book 1 hoping that book 2 would do some heavy lifting but it just didn’t happen. There is so much focus on the drugs and drug making aspect that the romance became a subplot and was relegated to the background instead of the focus.
Not to mention how all the numerous side “stories” feel forced: her attire, her interactions with the royal family’s child clearly used to justify breeding trope and pregnancy, her research and the way she constantly endangers herself so the MMC can be upset by it, the constant “well I gotta figure this drug thing out so y’all can get on with killing me”. The plot ends up bloated with everything treated in a very heavy handed way.

This author has quickly become a favorite and I can’t wait to read more. Her world building is interesting and in depth crafting the species in the New Protectorate world with her own inspired additions. The characters get much growth and development as well as a love story deep with emotional highs and lows. It’s everything I want in genre Romance (plus spice!).
I could tell this was her first work. The writing is not as tight as more recent installments which is how I entered (Kohl, Faraway) the series. But it definitely still reads the same—just a bit more rambling and repetitive in some aspects. It says much to how she’s grown in her writing in the couple years she’s been on the scene. Excited to read the rest of the series and novellas, which I already own both ebook and print of…that’s how much I like her.

First time reading this author and I will do so again. This is a romance between a with FMC and a werewolf MMC (truthfully the MMC is more Lycan than werewolf but many people conflate the two).
Loved the relationship development and the way the author wove the spice into the story. Whether it was to satisfy their mutual attraction or to further their relationship in some way, it was beautifully done in a very sex positive way.
The lore and world building were very interesting and I’m eager to see how that plays out in future books. Especially with regard to the hints at their species origins and the reasoning behind their decline. I was curious how the author was going to solve the “issue” of the mains remaining together and dang if the author didn’t dangle the solution in front of us the whole time without my realizing it. I loved that. Nicely done and a very satisfying end to their story!
