the only reason why its not 5 stars is bc i only give books 5 stars if it is on par with my personal preferences ,, which is lesbian romance ,, buttt for a book that doenst fit my preferences ,, its 10000% perfect in every literary element n i would recommend anyone this book regardless of what they typically read!!! its very universal and has a powerful message that stands the test of time!!! pls pls read it if you ever have the chance !!!! <33

ok tbh i only read this bc of my english class n i had low expectations of it bc the other students seemed to struggle reading it/read it ahead and hated it ,,  BUUTT i am soo glad my teacher picked this book !!! literally most of my time was occupied with homework and academics that i never had time to read since i was a child ,, so being forced to read this literally reignited my passion for books!!!  the themes, the plot and the world building was quite entertaining!!! ESPECIALLY THE NARRATION / VISUAL DESCRIPTIONS!!! THEY WERE IMMACULATE N R THE VERY REASON WHY I LOVE THIS BOOK SOOO MUCH!!! n i mean ive read some peoples reviews who actually think this aspect of the book is its biggest weakness bc it goes on and on in unnecessary tangents about the setting, symbols, and flashbacks ,, but personally its my fav thing about books and the whoollee reason why i even read !!! this book literally made me be engulfed by the story and escape reality to the point where when i did stop reading to take a break, i was like where am i?? this aint my room?? n i was like oooo that world doesnt exist ... handmaids arent reall oop-

anygays ,, when it comes to characters i actually really ddint like the main character n was dissappointed that the perspective wasnt from moiras bc she was my fav and most relatable lesbian character!! also serena joys + ofglens characters were quite compelling and i enjoyed them too!! other than that, i only wished the characters were more on my par of standards.

overall love love love this book specifically for its atmosphere, setting, symbols, and visual descriptions!! the only down side is some of the characters i personally didnt like. sooo i def reccomend this book if you can handle the narration (which has a lot of flashbacks that some people critiqued to be confusing but i find very informative n helped me pieced together the story but to each their own) and writing style (which has a lot beautiful descriptions of setting n symbols)!! <33

also by the way i only read this book, and plan on reading its follow up books, so i can read again my old books and refresh how i feel about them before i decide what to do with them (like keeping them or donating them etc), so my review might seem a little bit more critical because my taste in books has substantially evolved based on what i have been thru and the more epiphanies i have of myself. so please keep that in mind and im sorry, i do not mean to hurt any fans' feeling over this review; in fact i used to be a major fangirl of the series and especially katniss when i was just a few years younger. but now im 18, and i just want to voice my opinions of this book since this book and its series is hyped by so many people, so hopefully my tiny little review wont make much impact on its glowing reputation<3

now starting with the negatives .... its just, some parts of katniss' character and the whole hetero ya genre/writing style just felt a little cringey for my taste. it was to the point where i basically struggled to finish the book. i had to even make every single character queer and change the whole plot to spice it up and make myself continue since i couldnt stand this type of predictable cheesy ya hetero romance. overall, the whole hetero romance just felt too much for my personal preferences and i kind of wish katniss focused on a way to fight the capitol while trying to play their games instead of having frantic thoughts here and there; going from the games, then her feelings, then doubts etc. if she focused more on hatching a plan for rebellion after the games as a revenge, it would probably given it enough content to not need a romance element to it and have katniss and peeta work another angle in surviving the games(like childhood besties or smthng)

buutt there some special moments that made me feel so sad and happy and philosophical with the system, both in the book and in real life, that gave me a new appreciation towards this book (like the bond between katniss and rue). and this is where i have conflicting emotions, where if it werent for those wholesome moments, and me changing everything in my head, id prolly give this a 1 star, but those heartwarming scenes and corruption of the capitol kind of teeters my judgement as a whole to 3-4 stars.

the element of the dystopian setting and the famous games may appeal to your preferences, but, to me, it seems that it keeps being over shined with the romance elements here and there. tho, if your into this type of romance where one doubts the others intentions and this whole back and forth of they love me, they love me not, with a hint of enemies to lovers and fake dating, then i totes recommend this book to you and support your taste in books!! just bc this book made me uncomfortable doesnt mean you wouldnt like it, so you should give it a read if this book and its synopsis is your cup of tea! :D

so far i have been scavenging through my old childhood books i never came to read and giving them a chance, and i happened to come across the hobbit...

😤😮‍💨 ... i just wish the characters were more inclusive tbh, like it mainly consist of men/men like creatures making morally questionable decisions/actions🙈. it made me feel distant from the story, and eventually i became less attentive to the whole book😔. tho the only character that gave me the will to persevere to the end was bilbo; who was the most relatable for me.

but on top of the monochrome characters, the narrator personally irritated me at times😳. either the writing just sounded off to me or it would directly address the reader; which is a very personal pet peeve for me because it snaps me back to reality😵‍💫 (which is the last thing i want when i am trying to fully engulf myself in a fantasy world😖).

also i got to say i skipped chapter 8 because i kind of have @r@chnophobi@(pls dont judge me🙈) and i had no idea the book contained it. but judging by the events that came afterwards, it doesnt seem like i even missed much and caught up with the storyline fairly well without reading that chapter🤷‍♀️.

as for the plot, thats the only thing i enjoyed🤠; tho there are some moments that could change to maybe have more effect in capturing the readers attention? (again mainly personal because some scenarios just lack any ✨wow✨ factor for me).

anygays, the characters and narration is not my cup of tea, but there is potential in creating an epic story with this plot!! butt if you dont care for relatable characters or some direct narration, youll prolly love it more than moi!!🥰

originally I was just gonna say it's a 4 star kind of book bc of the well written writing style, plot, and characters. However, my adoration over the ending made me feel like it deserves that 0.5. The only reason why it's not 5 stars is bc of personal preferences. The genre isn't my cup of tea (which are mainly lesbian books), but I wanted to read one of my old childhood books again for fun and I am glad I did !!
