Wreck the Halls by Tessa Bailey
this book required entirely too much suspended belief, the relationship moved way too fast (and not in the fun and passionate way), and this was a barren wasteland for baby girls, a completely babygirlless experience. so therefore there is no BGOTB

this book was such a sweet and uncomfortable mind fuck. while i did enjoy it, i fear i will have to reread it soon. BGOTB, i dare say, is a tie between olivia and fatima
That Prince is Mine by Jayci Lee

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC!
This was a nice, light-hearted read about a professional cooking instructor and a prince falling in love with each other. The premise sounded really promising, and I was super interested! Unfortunately, it did not meet many of my expectations. While I did love most of the main characters, Michel (our prince) was not a very iconic character. We learn nearly nothing about him in the book. Emma has important relationships with her family, she has a love of cooking, she takes pride in what she does and she has clear goals for what she wants in her life. Michel's personality is... Prince. (She's Barbie, and he's just Ken!). Overall, I do think the other characters are well written!
The beginning felt rushed, and I wished I could have gotten a chance to really learn more about the main characters before they were thrown together.
One big issue with the plot was: Michel's main motivation for finding love in the US was that he wanted someone to love him for him, not because of his crown. Totally valid! However, for his and Emma's first date, he invited her to have dinner with him at his resort penthouse suite (so I guess he can find someone who loves him for his money, instead!). The whole thing was kind of breezed over, which was bizarre!
Anyway, I wish I had liked this a lot more than I did. Oh well!

A Song to Drown Rivers by Ann Liang

Thanks a bunch to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!
This book was genuinely so addictive, and so wonderful! From start to finish, I was sucked into this world that Ann Liang so beautifully brought to life. The book is classified as adult lit, but there were a few times where it felt a little YA (in a great way!). I wish there was more time spent with characters, to really get a feel for their relationship. Obviously, Xishi and Fanli are separated for most of the book, so I do get it. However, Zhengdan is supposed to be one of Xishi's best friends and I wish I got to see more of that! All-in-all I really adored the themes and Liang's story telling!

i have to say first that the characters in this book were so wonderful. often in romance books, every character has every trope and cliche that could be imagined; but these characters felt new and fresh as far as romance books go these days. this book was frustrating because of how much miscommunication was apart of the plot; i don’t think there’d be much plot substance without the whole miscommunication thing. it went on until the last few chapters of the book

laurie colwin really knows how to suck you in! her style of writing is witty, quick, and choppy in the very best ways. it starts quick and ends quick, my only issue was that i wish it was longer!!
if you’ve always wanted to real “a little life” by hanya yanagihara, but you don’t want to traumatise yourself, read this instead!
