The Night Masquerade by Nnedi Okorafor
5.0
This series is unlike any other sci-fi book I have read. The main protagonist resolves conflict with her intelligence despite her own self-doubt. Binti is easily one of the most courageous characters that I have read about recently. She pushes forward even though she isn't a fighter, puts herself in the middle of danger a stands up to things others would back down from.
The character Binti is fantastic, and I would love to see more protagonists written like her.

Reasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig

Lots of interesting points contrasted with personal stories. Unfortunately, there were a lot of lists that came off very out of place in the audiobook that I feel would be more successful on the page.
Storm Front by Jim Butcher

Great twist on the detective genre, but it was a little too predictable. Would've been more like a 3 if the magic wasn't such a solid addition. Also, bonus points to James Masters for the great narration. If anything, this might have me convinced to only listen to the books rather than read.
The Dictator's Handbook: Why Bad Behavior is Almost Always Good Politics by Bruce Bueno de Mesquita

Great book. Highlights why a democracy can be just as oppressive as a dictatorship and it all makes sense. Definitely something worth reading for anyone, regardless of your personal politics.
The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan

Thoroughly enjoyed this even though you can tell this book takes a LOT from other influences. However, the feel that this world is more than just those influences makes me excited to read the next one.
Dune by Frank Herbert

Great concepts and cool characters, but some of the skipping around came off odd. I also was disappointed in the full cast reading because it felt off and disjointed and the random background music sounded like they just searched "public domain ominous" and picked the first thing they found.
