Beyond the Pale by Mark Anthony

One of the coolest unknown fantasy series. Found this by accident and decided to read the rest of the series (5 more books) based on the excellence of this one. I can't believe that this series is out of print! The writing is quality, the fantasy world is original, and the characters are interesting and memorable. Great stuff and thoroughly entertaining!

If you're going to read one Sheri Tepper book, this would be the one that I would recommend. This was the first fantasy book that I ever read and it still remains one of my favorites to this day.

This series continues to get better and better.

I'm baffled by the 1 and 2 star reviews. Honestly, I've read a ton of crappy sci-fi in my life and this is by no means crappy sci-fi. I don't know if Kevin J Anderson is the greatest sci-fi writer in the world, but he certainly isn't the worst or even close to it. I'm looking forward to reading book 2 in the series. Highly entertaining stuff.

Empire From the Ashes by David Weber

Kind of what I expect from David Weber. Interesting story, great action, and some good old military space opera. Not as good as the Honor Harrington series or the Safehold series, but definitely worth the read. It thoroughly entertained me.

I read this book years ago, but i'm just getting around to writing a review. I'm usually a strict sci-fi/fantasy reader, but occasionally I will pick up a thriller or mystery if it is not in a modern day setting. In this case, the story takes place in the late 19th century and revolves around an attempt to catch a "Jack the Ripper" style serial killer that is terrorizing the citizens of New York City. I remember reading this book in 3 days because I simply couldn't put it down. It is engrossing and suspenseful, as well as a little creepy. Caleb has never recaptured the brilliance of this book in my opinion. It's a shame really, because his writing is brilliant here. Pick it up and read it, you won't be disappointed.
Header by Edward Lee

So here's the thing about Edward Lee that you should know up front - His books are very, very, violent and gory. You don't get to be the king of splatterpunk by writing compelling stories. That being said, Header is not without its bright points. The story takes place in the backwoods of Virginia and focuses on the exploits of corrupt special agent Cummings and a teen with a penchant for getting into trouble named Travis. Travis is taught by his elderly grandfather about a unique form of revenge on those who have wronged the family in some way. This form of revenge is called a "header". It involves a power drill, sharp knife, and a certain male body part. I'll leave you to fill in the blanks. If you can get past that point without being too shocked, then kudos to you and you'll be treated to flashes of a really good story. For me, it was just too hardcore and I am by no means a prude when it comes to horror novels. It's a shame because the scenes with special agent Cummings are intense and actually compelling. I just couldn't get past the whole "header" thing. Fans of Edward Lee will probably enjoy this new title, but for me it was just ok due to the extreme gore/sex aspects.

Good sci-fi, not great. Thankfully it was a free download.
