About 5 minutes before making this review, I just finished American Rapture by CJ Leede. I'm trying to decompress my feelings because it's left me feeling a lot of ways. After DNFing Maeve Fly by the same author I was hesitant to go into American Rapture, but I'm glad I did.

A little slow at the beginning, it turns into a tense, scary survival horror novel that is more terrifying to me than zombies. As a lover of the zombie horror genre, I think the book really strikes gold with its character development and reflections on the plague. It is a hauntingly beautiful but at times hard to get through story.

5/5 for me.

More romance and less horror focused than the 1st book in this series, Immunity picks up right where contagion left off. The first half of the book is honestly very slow. However the 2nd half picks up and had me glued to the book. It does bother me that everything is tied up in a nice little bow at the end. Considering how rough and gritty the first book was, the sequel really embraced the YA genre. I personally wasn't a fan but others may like it.

I disliked the ending and how every single man was an absolute asshole. The rest of the book, reflections on choice of motherhood, and inner turmoil of the main character were interesting enough to give it a 3.5.

I could see the potential in this book, but it just didn't hook me. The hive mind has been done many times before. It's constantly referred to as an alien but that isn't really developed. It's a very predictable story about a hive mind utopia versus the human choice to feel negativity.
