can totally see the appeal but this was not my vibe. i’d say the plot was missing in action but there was no action. worldbuilding was implied most of the time, which i didn’t mind too much since the classic dnd adventurer tropes were the basis of characters and motivations. low stakes is 100% accurate. i can see this being a comfort read, maybe something i would continue with the prequel for a vacation book but i was just yearning for any tension or conflict in this for most of it and the burning of the shop was interesting enough that i would’ve almost that had happened at the end of act one or something, and spent more time with the rebuilding process
glad i read it but not really for me. the journaling prompts are great and the voice of the author is extremely approachable. mostly felt repetitive to other works within intersectionality, fat studies, etc that i have read previously
this duology is just so gripping, kaz is listed in dictionaries as an example for mastermind and it’s so entertaining seeing the all unravel. once i hit the third act i was sure someone was gonna die but i was not anticipating matthias!
almost a four star read but the theatre kid flashbacks were almost too strong for me, specifically when mc was narrating the director fear after the meeting had to go on without her sent me STRAIGHT back to my directing days, which was not bad but it was visceral. i was going back and forth sometimes during the dnd scenes on how accurate i felt they were, but overall i downed this in less than a day and the third act resolution made me cheese out on public transit
i think this is an amazing starting point in getting informed about homelessness in america, a lot of the stats were review for me since this wasn’t my first rodeo, but the anecdotes and narratives from/about people experiencing homelessness are invaluable, and i learned a lot about recent orgs and initiatives around the issue
i tore up this book, specifically the last half of it- finished it in a morning. the magic was neat, not a focal point of the story (at least compared to the fantasy i read) but i got attached to those little teeth when keeper got them?? i was PISSED romance was sweet and snuck up on me. honestly just wondering why the e daughter was named Evening Primrose??? i already had to pause at Bramble but Eve short for Evening Primrose? i had to do some deep breathing
