Underground: The Tokyo Gas Attack and the Japanese Psyche by Haruki Murakami
4.0
i did actually like that the book was divided between the victims povs and the aum members povs. I feel like it did add to this book if it is to analyze the "japanese psyche" which I feel can be applied to anyone tbh.

I was familiar with many of the cults mentioned and it did not provide any deeper insight into them. felt very surface level.

the difference between this and the first book is uncanny.
the first book felt so much more mature and the pacing and tension were perfect. shiori was reckless but she wasn't straight up irrational. the dragon arc was so rushed things just kept happening and by the second page they were resolved, the whole cast betrayed her and then they all turned out to be doing things for her own good it's just messy, and the dragon king was such an unserious villain. By the time she was out of the water I couldn't care less where she takes that pearl.
Also that paper bird is annoying as hell
