Evidence: A Past-Life Memory by Sue A. Hart

From the very beginning, I was intrigued by the concept of a mind that could not only remember details from years ago but also from a past life. The author has weaved a heartwarming and thrilling journey into both the past and present lives of Maggie. She’s a strong protagonist with a good sense of humour and determination to uncover the truth about her family history. Romance with a dose of sci-fi - definitely a story I would recommend!
Effing Dave by S.L. Baron

Dave is hilarious. He loves attention, especially when he can mess with people. The other immortals hate him for it, but after living such long lives, what’s a little risk? This is a delightful, humorous short story. Baron does an excellent job at making each character lovable and memorable in his own way—especially Dave, who can’t resist appearing in the newspapers and historical artwork, leaving clues for mortals to ponder. Highly recommended.

Spilt Wine is an entertaining look into wine culture. It's a blend of informative subject matter and relationships between well-developed characters. I would agree with other reviews that it's not necessarily a 'gripping crime thriller', but that doesn't take away from the fact that this book was interesting and well-researched. The author's passion shines through in his writing.

I enjoyed this collection of short stories. My favourites were 'Test Your Mettle' by Jason Greenfield, 'A Cat in Sheep's Clothing' by Paul Westley (both of which were very humorous and creative), and 'Perceptions' by Michelle Potter (an endearing reminder that we may underestimate ourselves but may mean the world to someone else). It was great to read some stories by other authors and it was entertaining to listen to Jason's commentary throughout.
Embers in the Ice: Prequel by Jade Lawson

Having read this prequel before getting into the main series, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Even in such a short book, Lawson did an excellent job of introducing the two main characters, Theoden and Nevaeh, as well as a few supplementary characters. Theoden has a dark past, part of which is unknown by the audience, and Nevaeh is the innocent girl with inhuman psychic powers that will hopefully calm his bloodlust. The author has teased us just enough to keep us wanting more, to find out what will transpire when the two finally meet.
