The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece by Tom Hanks
4.5
I loved the writing style in this book. Hank’s writing is captivating and enchanting. He draws you into the story. The characters are fabulous. There is a huge cast of characters but each one is individual and fully formed. I also found the insight into making a film absolutely fascinating. Tom Hanks narrates most of the book on the audio and is absolutely wonderful. It is one of my favourite audio books.
By Any Other Name by Jodi Picoult

I loved this book. It’s amazing. The writing is enthralling and captivating. The research that’s been done is meticulous. And it’s hard to tell fact from fiction. The two women, at the centre of the story, Melina and Emilia are amazing. They are strong, independent and clever. They make mistakes but they always do what they believe is right. My favourite Jodi Picoult.
Iron & Embers by Helen Scheuerer

This was one of my favourite romantasy books of the year. It was epic and awesome. With fabulous world-building and intriguing characters. The characters were strong but with human frailties and vulnerabilities. I especially loved Torj and the humourous and charismatic Kipp. The romance sizzled and there was one hell of a cliffhanger. I can’t wait for the next book.
A Kingdom of Lies by Ben Alderson
4.5
I adored “A Kingdom of Lies”, the second book in “The Realm of Fey” series. The stakes are higher and this book is full of twists and turns. Robin does not know who to trust and I loved the intrigue. A brilliant book.
We Solve Murders by Richard Osman
4.5
I loved this so much. Such a fab and fun thriller. Richard Osman writes the best characters. They’re so real and just make me laugh and smile. He also writes poignant scenes really well. And in this book dealt with grief sensitively and delicately. A great start to a new series.
Happiness, a Mystery: And 66 Attempts to Solve It by Sophie Hannah
1.5
I found this book disappointing. It didn’t tell me anything I didn’t know. It was probably better read then on audio. It also felt like a bit of a sales exercise. I considered DNFing and I never DNF a book. But it was my bookclub book and I’d like to read more non-fiction.
City of Silk: A Talented Seamstress, a Powerful Merchant and a Fierce Battle of Wills in Sixteenth-Century Bologna by Glennis Virgo

A beautifully written piece of historical fiction. I’m a huge Renaissance nerd so loved the vivid setting of Renaissance Italy. And this tale of Elena’s past coming back to haunt her and the retribution she seeks is brilliant.
A Jingle Bell Mingle by Sierra Simone, Julie Murphy

I really enjoyed this wholesome but very filthy festive book. I’ve waited for Isaac’s story and it didn’t disappoint. This Christmas Notch story dealt with tougher subjects such as grief and family. And it handled them sensitively. I love the found family in this book and the sex and body positivity. A naughty festive treat!
Only Santas in the Building by Alexis Daria

Another really cute and steamy romance. Theo and Evie were the sweetest. And I especially loved Theo who gave sexy golden retriever vibes. This was romantic, festive and hot. Adorable!
Merriment and Mayhem by Alexandria Bellefleur

This was a sizzling romance with brilliant Chemistry. I love a fire-fighter in a romance book and Griffin was swoon-worthy. His meet cute with Everleigh was hot and sweet. And I loved the spicy ending. Perfect spicy romantic escapism in 60 pages.
