i had a hard time grasping the events of the book because there was so much going on, it didn't gave other characters the arc/direction that they truly deserved and it doesn't even feel like nikolai's story at some point, i personally think that there was no point in bringing the darkling back because there were already strong contenders who can brew conflict (queen makhi, jarl brum), but i appreciate how leigh made some of the characters interact such as the crows and nikolai's company it was refreshing to read
