Never have I read such a selfish protagonist as Brighton, and I am a diehard fan of the vampire lestat. She makes what is admittedly a very well constructed book stagnate by what a piss poor person she is. That in itself is no deal breaker for me, I love a messed up protag. But the book goes out of its way to act as if every selfish, horrible thing Brighton's ever done is justified because she... what? Is a bad communicator? This is not to say Charlotte is entirely innocent in the relationship, she has her own share of issues with intimacy. The issue is, Charlotte is forced to confront these issues and Brighton is absolved. 

My opinion? Brighton is gonna leave Charlotte and the altar once more because that is what Brighton does. I hope all that therapy Char talks about towards the end of the novel is enough for her to MOVE ON FROM THIS ASSHOLE! God in heaven, I felt more chemistry with Char and her bestie than Brighton. 

Genuinely even if you are an Ashley Herring Blake fan I would say skip this one and reread Astrid Parker doesn't fail. That book has similar contrivances with much better characters. 

TLDR: We need to take the second chance romance genre outback and shoot it. They're never interesting or good. 

author is a zionist. thank god I picked up the book at a thrift store. Skip over this one, any ideas presented in the novel are done more effectively by authors that aren't totally morally bankrupt.

Another very enjoyable Diana Quincy read! Though I enjoy her newer novels more, this proved to be a delightful read. It actually reminds me a lot of her other novel The Marquess Makes his Move (in that it features a gentleman in disguise, marriage of convivence and a few small deceptions here and there). I would recommend this for any fan of Quincys work.
