so incredibly vivid with beautiful modern prose. it's a tale of identity, love, power and money interweaving with complex and fully rendered characters. it's female rage and despair, decentering the usual narrative and introducing a new depth to the story of jane eyre. it's a book that will be running around in my mind for years :)

this was a convoluted but incredibly immersive read. it is funny and has a clear narrative voice, it takes us through the meanders of our daily lives and dives deep into every seemingly insignificant train of thought. i did find myself getting frustrated, every chapter seems packed with meaning but the text is so saturated that i struggled to get everything i could out of it.
this is definitely a read i'll take with me, our window into the protagonist's life is so narrow that we're left with no other choice but to imagine the rest.
(wish it was slightly less hetero but oh well)
