"The waters came into my soul; I sank in deep mire: I felt no standing; I came into deep waters; the floods overflowed me."
Slow-paced books are my worst enemy. I tend to finish those flimsy 200-page stories in a single weekend and Jane Eyre took me a month to get through. I got some good laughs out of it, though. I don’t usually like romance plots because they’re so cheesy and this one wasn’t the exception — even though the writing is absolutely stunning, so enthralling, and mesmerizing, I could not get over the age difference between the love interest and Jane! It killed me every time I thought of it. I really did like the book, but it just felt endless. The slow-pace life is not for me.

When I tell you that I just about died when I read this, I truly did. I loved the endless plot twists and the idea of ghosts and pendulums. Unlike popular opinion, I liked the portrayal of the antagonist — the author made him seem so human in a way that feels powerless and quirky. This is a great book to curl up to on a stormy night.

Absolutely not. I read this in Spanish and it was genuinely my worst nightmare. The plot made no sense and it was predictable from the start. The main character constantly got on my nerves and made me want to throw the book across the continent. C for effort.

It’s not really my style. I’m not a huge fan of the dual perspectives and the way the story is divided in parts doesn’t make sense to me. I’m not obsessed with the writing style either — it appears to be really plain. The plot is overused in my opinion and the book is very predictable.
