This was a wonderfully depressing, yet inspiring read. It gave me hope for the future and gave me headaches about the past (but it also inspired me!) This is a must-read for any naturalists and anyone who hopes to be in the field of conservation - or is -  because it contains valuable historical knowledge, and those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it. Nijhuis writes in a most compelling style, which keeps the book entertaining even when the events run dry. Pretty solid book.

Read the majority of it in one sitting. What a fascinating and tragic story, illustrated by McCurdy in talented, emotional writing.

This book was an utter drag to get through. Not very happy about it getting assigned to me in class.

A gut-wrenching, reflective, gorgeous gem of a novel.

Very informative, slow-paced, and reflective read. Another favorite by Jennifer Ackerman. This book is mellow and reflects on the nature around her, and her family life (though not quite as heavily). I enjoyed this book greatly and found it relaxing to read. I highly recommend it to other nature lovers!

Had to read for class… did not enjoy. The characters felt stale and the story dull.

This book was fantastic. The writing made you forget the fact that it was a book, written in such a manner that I was lost in the story, picturing exactly what was happening. The characters felt real and extremely flawed, much like a real human being is, which is often neglected in books - don't get me wrong, their being flawed is a good thing, story-telling wise. This book is tragic. I gave this book my heart and it absolutely shattered it into a thousand pieces, and then again, and just for the fun of it, once more. I read this in one sitting and absolutely loved it. I would recommend it.
