The Shack by Wm. Paul Young

There were some great things in this book. Since it's a narrative it's very readable and really tries to explain why God allows suffering, pain, and brutal deaths. The story clearly shows this world’s evil and suffering is the result of our abuse of free will. God has not kept evil from happening in order to accomplish this glorious, greater good that humans are not able to understand yet. O really appreciated the interaction between Mack and Sonia that showed when we stay angry we put ourselves in the seat of the ‘Judge of the world and God’, and we are unqualified and simply should not want such a job. I really struggle with seeing with an ‘eternal perspective' and the author had some sweet scenes of Mack's realization of this. Young really focuses on the relationship between man and God and it's beautiful.
This book is not perfect, I don't think that God is 'okay' with sin. Even in Eden it's clear that God had a deep sadness when his creation disobeyed. I also really disagreed that God does not hold his creation to rules or expectations and that these supposed rules/expectations are simply invented by humans. The Bible has set up expectations and rules, but when you're working with sinful depraved human beings, things get twisted and God gets blamed.

The narration by Little Bee's character was very well written. The plot leaves something to be improved upon. The first half of the book was the best part; the resolution seemed to be thrown together haphazardly.
