the subtle horror, quiet dread, and palpable loneliness of this novel are incredible. this novel only reaffirms a huge belief of mine: nothing in the ocean is my business.

this novella was so unique that i couldn't help but keep reading. it was confusing at times, but i really enjoyed the folktale vibes. if anything, this book is wildly interesting.

campy horror is not my cup of tea - i want to preface this by saying i read this for book club and my opinion is definitely not relevant for fans of the genre. i wasn't a huge fan of the writing style, but the last fourth of the book was intense and horrific and kept me on the edge of my seat. also, when i heard it was queer i was expecting more romance (sorry not sorry) so i do wish there could have been a little more cuteness thrown in between all the murder and stuff.

forever upset that the author became sick and died, and that the manga will never be finished. i need to know how the story continues! 😭

i was obsessed with this manga in middle school. it's definitely not my favorite anymore but it's still such a fun read.

this wasn’t a bad book at all—it just wasn’t for me. had i not been reading this for book club, i probably would’ve dnf’ed. i felt it was too slow and i didn’t connect with the main character in any way. i felt distanced from her and the story itself. again, it wasn’t bad, just wasn’t for me.
