This was a fun but average read. I didn’t particularly like the Insta-love, but it was kind of cute at the same time.

I found this book to be very dull. I can see why it’s well-loved, but I just did not love it. That “twist” was so obvious that when it got revealed, I was just like “yeah…omg. Like I didn’t know that already.” I don’t know if it’s worth it to keep going with the series. I just have not been captivated by the two I’ve read so far.

This book blew my mind. There were so many moments where I was in shock from what I had just read. I had to close the book and stare at it for a few minutes to calm myself down. The character development was amazing, especially Tinnstra. I just loved almost every second of it.

The only criticism I have is that everything seemed to come too easy for Zorique. She always seemed to have new powers that could easily defeat the enemy, and she always did the same thing to them. It made her battle scenes kind of boring to read. Way too repetitive for my liking.

The only spoilers thing I want to talk about is Jax/Darus. That had to be my favourite reveal and completely explained Jax’s behaviour in the second book. Once that reveal happened, I had to put the book down. But then, when Kojin Jax/Darus got defeated so quickly, it was a bit disappointing.

I found this book a struggle to get through until about halfway. It’s very much a tell but not show kind of story. I would have liked to have seen the trials instead of just hearing about them in passing.

Celaena is still kind of insufferable, but I liked her a little better by the end.

This book just throws you right into the action, but doesn’t explain anything that is going on, or why. And even then, the writing felt dry as if I was reading a textbook.

I also didn’t like the characters we met.

I could not connect with it. I found it to be a slog to get through. I haven’t read TOG yet, so I feel like I’m not invested enough to care about our MC yet.

I just could not connect with the story. I don’t seem to like books where the characters are escaping and have to travel around a lot. I had the same problem with The Darkest Minds. I just find it so boring.
