Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor

Did not finish book. Stopped at 26%.
I was not enjoying this book at all. I struggled to get through it. I even got the audiobook to help me read it and even that didn’t work. I don’t like sequels  that deviate wildly from what the first book was about, and this was a completely different story. I couldn’t handle the lyrical writing style and descriptions because I ended up not knowing what was going on. I couldn’t tell you a single thing that happened during the 132 pages I read. I think I’m done with this series and will not be reading any more books by Laini Taylor.

I found this book to be very average. It was an interesting concept, but it fell flat. The challenges Rielle undertook were ok.  The switch between Rielle and Eliana every chapter was a bit annoying as I would forget what had happened in their previous chapter. Overall, I did like this book, but not a lot. I’m interested to see what happened in order for us to get to the start of the book and that’s the only reason I’m continuing the series.

I went into this book not knowing much about it besides the tag line, and I’m glad that’s all I knew. It’s beautifully written with a main character I couldn’t help but root for. She was strong, resourceful and compassionate. I loved the princes and the princess as well. I’m excited to see where the story goes in the sequel.

This book starts off with a man talking to his friends about how he attacked a woman. The writing style also did fit with me either.

This book didn’t feel like a sequel. It felt like a rehash of the first book, but in a slightly different setting. This book used the same mechanisms as the first book where we wouldn’t  get to find out what someone was going to say because a random action sequence started. I hope the third book is better.

I loved this book. I’ve been wanting to read it since watching the series. It’s an intense and emotional read that made me feel everything. It’s honest. It shows that no one really knows what’s going on inside your head, because no one knew what Hannah was going through until they heard the tapes. And Clay’s reactions to the tapes just broke my heart.

I loved the tapes, but they just felt spiteful. Like Hannah was trying to get back at the people on them. When she wasn’t saying names or blaming others, the tapes were great. They told her story and showed her slow progression from average teen girl to depression and then the end.

I gave 13 Reasons Why a 4/5 stars because of the spiteful nature of the tapes. Other than that, perfect.

The class reaction to Hannah’s note in Peer Communications really got to me. It hurt to know that they only cared about a suicidal classmate if they knew who it was, and just thought they were doing it for attention. If Hannah had of put her name on the note, I don’t think any of them would have offered her their help.

This book was marketed to fans of the hunger games and divergent. The only thing that puts the book in league with those is the divide between genders. This book started off ok, but by the end I was skimming the book just to get through it. I didn’t like the world building or the way each gender was treated in the two opposing nations. I just feel like this story could’ve been done so much better than it was. It was also very problematic. I will not be continuing with the series.

This book was so beautifully written. I didn't want it to end just so I could stay there forever. The love story written in these pages was wonderful. Once I understood the reason for why they felt connected right away, I just fell even deeper into their love. Laini Taylor just has a way with words that I cannot explain. I loved every second of this book.

This book started off as an average 3 star read, but then the ball started rolling and it got so exciting that I couldn't put it down. There was action, twists, great characters. I loved every second of it once it got going. My only issue was the romance. It was way too fast and felt too unbelievable. I really would recommend this book. It was an awesome ride.

The premise of this book was great, but it turned out to be an average read. I did like it though. I just feel like it had the potential to be more. I do love that this book is very female-driven.
