Bata, Bata... Pa'no Ka Ginawa? by Lualhati Bautista

Yesh, like the others, this is one "high-school-compliance-read-or-else-you-have-zero-final-rating-in-filipino"
Is this an author's psychograph? I was just curious since my professor previously shared that Luwalhati has had that interlude with her bestfriend - making love as friends. And she claims that this is also one of the materials / vehicles to enlighten Pinoys that this is the current society.
But I would recommend this to other teenagers, not because as high-school-compliance but because of the picturesque Slice-of-Life the author shared.

The Woman Who Had Two Navels by Nick Joaquín

another high-school-compliance-read-this-or-else-zero-grade-in-report-card!
Good read. Concept of incepting an idea to a Filipino mind is not so great since the two-navel idea is not a good comparison with a typical Pinoy with two (or more) identities.
Little did I know is that the navels served as metaphor. :)

Ang mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan by Bob Ong

Mama Susan gave me another lovely-bones-effect. I thought this was another psychograph by the author but this is a thriller fiction. I hate the fact that it gave an hour-long linger for me to swim with. AND I READ THIS BOOK AT HIGH NOON.
I hate the reversing society - as Bob Ong reflects our little country. We are afraid of societal changes, creating our own sanctuary, sealing ourselves for the rest of the world. You may say it is not happening now, but what about the little cripplers that we do to our own people? to our own surroundings? to our own society?
It awakened me to make a move and get out of my shell, rather than wait and be haunted. Just like the last paragraph the author wrote. CHILLER~~~!!!! >.

Can I just cry? T_T
This is the first time I've read this novel and I was moved. I thought kidism is not a good vehicle to tell the grown ups some life lessons but here is Exupery, exploring stars, boa constrictors, tale of the rose and taming the fox.
I cannot give a comprehensive review for everyone but if you haven't read this book, do not let yourself grow old and be too mature to critic the novel before you read for you cannot see the magic.
And learn to read this again not for the sake of accomplishing things and for the pride of a job well done, you read this again if you are lost in yourself - and simply wants to find a way back home.

Blink by Malcolm Gladwell

A Tale of Contradictions. How snap decisions can impact our lives and how to practice them. But in a hindsight, you are also warned about the bad things about snap decisions.
We are not told to blink and snap and decide. We are told to practice thinking carefully - no matter how much time we invest in a crossroad.

Life of Pi by Yann Martel

I cannot believe this is a work of a beautiful mind. All the while I thought this is a real-life story.
Piscine Molitor is a name of a swimming pool located in France. And so is the first name of the protagonist of the story. A teen, struggled with acceptance from peers, from religious groups, and from Richard Parker.
There were horrid chapters in the novel that gave me the same stigma as with the Lovely Bones. There were moments that I can reflect in terms of exercising faith and ways of loving God. There were chapters that are funny and weird, but all the same I felt the catharsis that we are alpha beings that can intimidate even the biggest Bengal Tiger Pi has ever known.
This is recommended to those who love animals, who had the same peer pressure in their younger years, who have the same struggle with faith, who experienced being stranded in a lifeboat or in life in general - whether you have a Bengal tiger as a pet or not.
Side note: A Movie Adaptation is set to embark on the big screen this December 21,2012 (or January 2013 in Manila).
