Really enjoyed this book, its pace and the twists and turns. It was edgy, atmospheric and engaging. The only negative for me (and it's a personal preference) was the short, punchy sentences which are employed throughout. I found that I wanted the narrative mixed up more, to read some longer sentences in with the snappy ones. It's a small point but one I couldn't move away from despite the excellent story. Four stars and well worth a read. :-)

There were a lot of things going for this book but the action and adventure was too sparse for me, giving way to endless dialogue and explanation. As a true story I found the whole situation fascinating, but them I discovered that the author fabricated parts and it kinda took the shine off a little? The main characters are varied. Some are certainly worthy of respect (Mclean and Moore and Marine Captain Welch to name but a few), but others are so pigheaded that you have to wonder whether any such commanders would really be found at the head of armies in time of war? It was also hard for me to think of the Americans as enemies, perhaps the reason why books about the War of Independence are not generally successful?

Ten Minutes in Heaven by Ben Ditmars

A collection of short plays from the immensely talented Ben Ditmars. I particularly liked the one about the bank robbery, and the man who couldn't care whether he lived or died. The plays are laced throughout with Ben's infectious sense of humour which is always delivered with impeccable timing. I noticed a few typos but they did not detract from a very enjoyable read and I'm very happy to recommend this book to anyone who wants some light hearted but thought provoking entertainment.
