This is one hell of a long read but it has loads going for it; the suspense is built nicely and the storyline engaging. The author clearly has lots of ability and I'm sure he will go on to bigger and better things. You certainly empathise with the lead character and the choices he is forced to make, trying to put yourself in the same situation and asking what you would do?
Overall, I enjoyed this novel though I think an editor would have cut the wordcount and peripheral narrative. That's not to say that it wasn't well done, because it was. I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes a good thriller.
