Telling a story through multiple avenues (poetry, recipes, baby essays) can get a little hard to follow, but Kwame Alexander's words are ones you can't help but listen to. I'm sure this would have been better in audio,as most poetry is.

I needed a book like this! Despite the heavy topic and themes, the story played out lightly and beautifully. It almost got a little too Hallmark-y at the end, but stayed on this side of heartwarming.

It was a clear and honest look on Britney Spears' life. Not that I was losing sleep about the tabloids or headlines, but hearing her perspective makes it all make sense.

This book was like eating a $100 ribeye after living off of burgers! Such a fresh take on a heroine's journey to greatness. Strong feminist message without being too overbearing, and I honestly loved having a character not bogged down by romance troubles in the midst of worldly disaster. Don't get me wrong; there's still romance, but the protagonist's rage never takes a backseat.
And the ending?? OH MY GOD. I'm mad I didn't read this sooner, but also happy I don't have to wait long for the sequel now.

Interesting detective story that grapples with perspectives, bias, and what drives us. A little slow paced since it focuses mostly on the interrogation aspect of a crime, but the ending was curious enough to engage me.
