so good! super confusing b/c of the structure+amount of characters and events mentioned but very worth it. had so much lore and also really great characters (corbeau and pfeifer i love you EXCEPT FOR THE BETRAYAL PFEIFER WHATTT ) and was just totally a great time. i think there are still unsolved ciphers in this thing which is cool. one thing you need to know about this book is that it is difficult to take places because sometimes the inserts fall out (especially the wheel in the back!!!).

toni morrison i love you... how could you do this to me? i can tell i am going to be haunted by this for a while. could have used a little less golden gray in my opinion (i think that was the most confusing part of the whole thing, mainly because our narrator seemed to be unsure herself). speaking of the narrator, i loved her (is it a her? always assumed so) from the very first line; she is so mysterious and wonderful and it's nice to have a narrator who changes her mind about characters over time like i do. anyways, dorcas made me so so sad, as well as felice... maybe i'm just a sucker for the sad lives of teenage girls. will be reading more from morrison hopefully.

De Waal is one of the best nature-writers I know... this book is great for everyone, no matter how much knowledge you have on animal cognition, behavior, sex, etc. etc.
