Definitely a step down from from the previous book, Out of the Shadows. It buckles under the weight of a tired Alien formula that dares to stray from that path, while very slightly attempting something different involving our main character, Decker, who's an empath who can feel emotions. Including those of the Xenomorph's. Who apparently want him dead specifically because of his relation to Ellen Ripley. To me, I personally didn't like this much. It felt like some Jaws: The Revenge type of bad with the Xenomorph's desperate for revenge. Like how could they know? It's a bit of a reach for a compelling story and for it to make sense.

However I enjoyed the tie ins to the movie Aliens in bits and pieces for die hard fans to notice and pick up. And once the Xenomorph's actually make their presence felt in a fun location, after a very slow first half, it's a lot of fun. The characters are very hit and miss though.

I was close to rating this lower due to me not really vibing with it as much as I'd hoped. But as an Alien fan I slowly came around to it and by the end it left me intrigued for more. Despite how very familiar it feels in so many ways, which weighs it down for me.
