beautifully written + some great characterisation but i just found it so intensely sad for no real purpose. in the end i dragged through it because (obviously) it’s a book entirely about a child dying and nothing else. even before he dies you’re thinking about his death. that was just too much for me so didn’t really enjoy the story.

I didn’t really find this engaging, it is extremely slow with no real drama happening until literally 90% through and by then I was skimming and totally disconnected from the story. Interesting ideas though.

there’s approx 100 pages of filler, and i wish the town of Torpa was fleshed out more and more clearly described, but overall fun & engaging. i would have loved it 10 yrs ago
