flew through this, very engrossing + a super interesting twist on a classic thriller

beautifully written + some great characterisation but i just found it so intensely sad for no real purpose. in the end i dragged through it because (obviously) it’s a book entirely about a child dying and nothing else. even before he dies you’re thinking about his death. that was just too much for me so didn’t really enjoy the story.
The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin

I didn’t really find this engaging, it is extremely slow with no real drama happening until literally 90% through and by then I was skimming and totally disconnected from the story. Interesting ideas though.

says interesting things about beckett + landscape/ecology very thoughtfully & artfully

there’s approx 100 pages of filler, and i wish the town of Torpa was fleshed out more and more clearly described, but overall fun & engaging. i would have loved it 10 yrs ago
