I laughed. I cried (sobbed). Aelin’s journey was beautiful, tragic, difficult & rewarding. I loved every bit of this ending.

I wanted to love this book. It was too predictable for me. While I was rushing to finish it so I knew what had happened to all the characters, it gave me a bad taste in my mouth the entire time. I think this is a great topic to cover and all domestic abuse survivors are so brave. I personally didn’t like how the topic was handled and how weak she made Lily, after there were so many warning flags from Ryle. Lily states she doesn’t trust people and is reluctant to open up, yet she opens up to a complete stranger the night she meets him? It just seemed to be inconsistent to meet the story of Lily following the path of her mother.

This book was SJM’s best writing so far. I was warned it was a lot of world building and slow at that start but I was hooked after 50 pages. The story was beauitful, the ending intense, and the character development was *chef’s kiss*. I thought I kind of knew how the story would go, but SJM blew me away.
