This book was good. It was weirdly paced i think. Very slow in the beginning. Jane is a queen and I love her. Mr. Gideon is a king and i love him

I WANTED TO LIKE THIS SO BAD. This is not about the science of horror films, not really. It's much more about the history of horror films, with a bunch of tangents about science. sometimes. sometimes the tangents are about not science. sometimes it made me laugh (hannibal lector? really?) mostly it made me angry. maybe it works better as not an audiobook, i don't know and i don't plan to find out.

realized i never removed this from my currently reading. FUCK THIS SHIT. how does this man make spontaneous human combustion fucking boring. out of the 20 some odd people i know who read this, you know how many liked it? 0. not one. zelch. zip. nada. part of me wanted to throw this in the bin while i was reading it, and then again after i was done. but i really like oxford world classics editions. even though this one is pretty shite. and bonus points for being a fmc. but negative points for seduction and epistolary novel tropes. fuck that. and fuck charles brockden brown. no disrespect to the dead, but i would spit on his grave for making me read this rubbish.

Since when did the Universe become a condescending, annoying, arrogant, colossal bitch?
I wanted SO BADLY to love this. The introduction had me so ososososososso excited, but the rest of it had me rolling my eyes. Things that (imo) didn't really need explaining were explained in the most condescending manner (basically: here's a basic definition for a scientific term that your teeny tiny puny little human brain could never have ever comprehended) like, what? Who is this really for? It felt like I was a child who asked a stupid question. Bonus points because this was a crazy cool concept, and Moiya McTier seems like one of the coolest people alive. Sorry that I hated your book
