Another beautiful story from Sue Lynn Tan. I feel that as a standalone, it had a bigger impact than the Celestial Kingdom series. It did take me a long time to finish this, but the payoff is unbelievable. Liyen is a great main character. The romance is everything you could possibly want from a romantasy book. 

Couldn't get into this at all. I found the FMC too sarcastic and witty. I didn't get a feel for her personality at all. Hera also was just kind of there out of nowhere, I didn't feel anything for her, her mission, cause or backstory. Something just didn't click at all for me unfortunately.

Without knowing the legend(s) the book is based on, I can't tell where the legend stops and the authors imagination begins. I felt like plot points moved too fast. Every goal kept being replaced by a new one as the MMC learned more. Still, even when I can objectivly see this as flaws, I can't say it impacted my enjoyment. The story itself kind of reads like I'm being retold an unwritten legend, with haziness and dream-like detailing. All in all, this is a very fullfilling read. It left me feeling content and hopeful. I would whole-heartedly recommend this book to anyone.

This was so easy to sink into and forget about anything else. I had a lot of fun. The plot followed a clear goal, had an interesting mystery tucked in from the start, and an absolutely WILD climax. I wasn't aware it's going to be a series, so I think the plot twist hit even harder, because I thought we were nearing the ending. 

100% recommending to anyone who loves games and trials, forbidden love & fae.
