The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

WOW!

This book is definitely going to be one of my top favourites in 2021! I was initially drawn to it because it’s very different from the books that I usually read. I liked the autobiography format within a fictional story and I’m happy to say that I throughly enjoyed this book!

The character of Evelyn Hugo was one of the most nuanced and perfectly imperfect characters that I’ve ever read. I liked that she throughly reminded us that she wasn’t a good person but also highlighted that she’ll do everything again.

What pained me the most was her connection to Monique and how she was basically involved in framing her father’s death. But I like that she wasn’t seeking forgiveness, Evelyn, despite her imperfections, was a character who wanted to be loved and be with the ones that she loved. She had her many flaws but I enjoyed that it was something that we as the readers understood but we didn’t necessarily have the justify.

I will be reading more of Taylor’s books and I’m happy that this was my first read of 2021!

I'm going to be honest, I really did try to enjoy this book, but it really wasn't giving for me. Maybe I'll try and re-read it some time next year and see how I feel about it but right now, I really didn't enjoy it enough to finish it
