The Isle of the Lost by Melissa de la Cruz
4.0
Okay. I wanted to give 3.5 stars from an ADULT point of view but from a child or tween this DESERVES five stars.
I shook my head in disgust when pretty famous bookstagrammers pulled this novel to shreds. This novel is NOT written for adults or young adults but rather kids and teens and for that demographic this novel is great. It explains each Descendants origin story and parentage and opens up discussion topics for children such as the love of wealth (Jafar) material possession (Cruella) beauty (Evil Queen) and power (Maleficent) and how absolute corruption can and will corrupt absolutely.
It teaches children to value friendship, camaraderie, honour, making the right choice and most importantly - given the choice people can choose good over evil.
I highly recommend this novel to parents if you wish to discuss these prevalent topics with your child.
