Don't worry about the dog. Radar is a good dog, and this isn't a sad dog story. You can really feel how much King loves dogs by how he writes about her.

This isn't a horror story, but there are some horrific scenes that get pretty gruesome. King doesn't linger on the gore unless it's setting a mood, and it's never used solely for shock value.
