Um, not really like the movie. Like, none of the gangs wear facepaint and baseball uniforms, or roller skates and overalls.

Dale Carnegie offers a charming mix of old-timey examples (lots of Al Capone and Charles Schwab) and solid advice. Of course, some of it hasn't aged well, like the references to the wise Chinese and the presidential mashnotes, but hell.
What I Talk about When I Talk about Running by Haruki Murakami

Okay, so Murakami has written some of my favorite books, but I was halfway through this book when it hit me that I just did not care about it at all. I hate running, and this book is basically his musings on running. There are, naturally, a few excellent nuggets, but he spends most of the book describing his running habits, and how he prepares for marathons and triathlons. If you like running, maybe this is interesting, but I hate running, and I found it totally boring.

Here are some things I learned from this book:
- about live and killed virus vaccines
- that there were some messed up tests of vaccines on institutionalized children and prisoners
- that the March of Dimes was originally focused on polio
- um, a lot of things about FDR's polio that I didn't know before.

While I appreciated her flexibility in interpreting these recipes, her narrative voice is a little...bloggy.
