Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for my review. I have loved Garza Villa’s work since Fifteen Hundred Miles From the Sun. Each work gets better and better. Futbolista was no exception. Gabi’s inner turmoil is no stranger to those of us who have ever questioned any part of ourselves. He’s a very likable protagonist, even when you’re frustrated with the choices he was making. Vale was a lovable love interest and has the patience of a saint. I’m really pleased to have had the chance to read this and more excited to have it as part of my collection, as I’ve already preordered a physical copy.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and the publishers in return for my honest review. I really wanted to like this book more. The premise is lovely. I enjoyed a lot of the secondary characters a lot. I even enjoyed our love interest/antagonist Jasper. I really could not love Charlie. Knowing he’s a teenager, that he’s a young trans man, I understand a lot of his difficulties in trust and decision making. But he just made so many things much more difficult than they needed to be. I also thought the PM stuff felt like a throwaway. I understand the need for that bit, but it all went away very quickly.
