This historical fiction with a dash of magic was heartbreaking and captivating. The dichotomy between our two main characters was so great. Loved the banter. Reminded me a lot of Nina and Matthias from Six of Crows.

The way this book breaches topics of systemic racism and the dichotomy of how society portrays individuals in similar circumstances in different lights was just breathtaking. Amazing read.

I enjoyed book 1 more. This one felt like it was dragging a bit for me.

Honestly, insta-love is not my thing. The fact that these two after just minutes of meetings were so head over heals was kinda meh for me. The world building was great. Characters were great. But the whole gods-gift thing...was left completely unexplained. Which humans get them and why? How? Is there a ceremony for it? So many questions. I loved the idea, it just needs some finishing touches, in my opinion.

Claustrophobic and eerie. Had me completely on edge and paranoid. It's definitely a perfect book for those who enjoy medical ethics debates and government conspiracies.

I loved the first novel so much and picked this book up thinking I'd love it as well. The pacing was just a bit too lagging for me personally. I also kept putting this novel down in favor of reading other titles due to the lack action happening. I will say, the major redeeming factor in this book is the characters. They are so well written and lovable. It was a job to spend some more time with them again after book 1.

Such a cozy fantasy, reminiscent of Legends and Lattes. The vibes of the adventure were the friends we made along the way. Found family trope.

Seductive and enchanting! If Caraval was a new adult novel, this would be it. Loved the whole 'say name 3 times' thing. Very Beetlejuice vibes.
